Description
This is a 19th-century harrateen upholstery fragment, possibly made in Europe. It is made of plain woven rose-colored wool and is hemmed on three of its four edges. It has a calendered design of floral motifs, flowing ribbons, and a butterfly. A small paper card stapled to the bottom left corner of the fragment contains a handwritten note reading “This small section has been ironed with a steam iron.” This object is one of a large group transferred to Winterthur from the American Textile History Museum when it closed in 2017.
