Description
This small wooden ladle has a shallow, rounded bowl and a straight handle with chamfered edges. The handle ends in a hook shape which points diagonally back towards the bowl. Utilitarian household items made from wood are sometimes called treen or treenware, terms which come from the word tree. Many plates, bowls, and utensils used in colonial America were made from wood, and the utensils in particular carved by hand. The maker and origin of this object is unknown, but its size and construction suggest it may be a Native American eating scoop.
