Description
This is part of a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. The wooden peg acts as an axle for a lever that controls the warp beam, allowing the weaver to put tension on the warp for weaving, or advance it as he completed a section. The two twigs running through this peg help keep the axle in place.
