Description
This is part of a shaft loom that was made in the late eighteenth century in Southeastern Pennsylvania and used there for over two hundred years. This piece is a long lever that lets the weaver advance the warp without getting up. The lever is connected at one end to a toggle (2015.28.1.W) next to the weaver. When the toggle is lifted, the other end of the lever drops from the gear on the warp beam, allowing it to rotate. This piece, like many on the loom, is decorated with a simple beaded moulding along the outer edge.
