Description
Many late 1600s and early to mid 1700s punch bowls featured matching lids, but few survive with both elements intact. Of the over 200 ceramic punch bowls in the Winterthur collection, this example is the only one that retains its lid. In this case, the lid features a low cylindrical element at the top, rather than a finial. That cilindar acted as a footrim if the lid were inverted for use as stand underneath the bowl.
