Description
A child's bonnet. An embroidered linen bonnet with one row of drawnwork along the brim and sides (about 2 cm from the edge). The bonnet is constructed from two panels of fabric: the crown and the brim. These pieces are reinforced with a double row of stitching. The brim is folded upward and pleated in the center. The back of the cap is gathered along the top edge. There are two floral embroidered motifs, The flowers are designed with five petals. The petals are executed in satin stitch. The stamen of each flower is executed with a knot stitch. The motif at the top of the cap is a five petal flower surrounded by a curved vine. The vines are executed in an unidentified stitch. There is a .5 cm wide hem at the bottom edge. This hem is reinforced with a width of cream colored silk ribbon in a matching width. These types of bonnets were usually worn over an additional cap or undercap.
