Robert L. Alexander’s “Decorative Wrought Iron at Winterthur,” p 7: “This gate is probably of the seventeenth century, coming from the area of northern Italy around Venice.” Additionally, several examples of Italian ironwork in "Decorative Ironwork of Italy" (Atglen: Shiffer Publishing, 2010) closely resemble this gate's design.
