Description
This watercolor painting is characteristic of Amish dwarf painter, Barbara Ebersol. Known as Bevvli to friends, she personalized these small gifts for friends and family amongst the Amish communities of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Unlike most Amish women, Bevvli’s dwarfism allowed her to explore her artistic talents as a fraktur painter of bookplates for the inside covers of important books such as hymnals. Bevvli developed a particular style of vibrantly colored yet simple designs of flowers, pears, and hearts. This floral watercolor design was one that appears in some of her 1870s bookplates. While an uncommon work by Bevvli, this watercolor stands as a token of remembrance to the people she loved during her lifetime.
