Description
In 1980 this tablespoon was tested and found to have an historically acceptable alloy level for colonial American silver. The “MM” marks stamped on the handle are virtually identical to those found on very successful modern forgeries of colonial silversmith Myer Myers’ work. This mark was created by a skillfully cut new die stamp used to transform genuine antique or modern silver into forgeries. The mark was first illustrated in 1917 by silver scholar and collector Hollis French and faked impressions continue to fool experts.
