Description
This is a handsome needlework rug found in the Winterthur Bedroom. In shades of rich rose, ivory, olive green, and tan, the rug features a trelliswork design of flowers bordered by a wide band of star-shaped flowers encased in lozenges joined together by bowknots. The rug was hand stitched in Scotland in the early 19th century. Wool yarn was arduously worked into the canvas using the rice stitch, which is similar to a double cross stitch.
