Description
This barrel or cylinder padlock and key has forge-welded components made with precision and a semi-circular bar with a pierced hasp tip that swings on a pivot hinge. There are spare, roughly incised lines of ornament on the cylinder exterior to emphasize the hinge point. The removable key has a circular finger loop and the shaft has four threads that function with a reverse twist to open. The padlock design is a standard model used in the early 19th century for many purposes, not unlike the D-ring shape used with shackles. It is unclear whether this lock was used in an outdoor context, but the condition overall is good and suggests a protected location.
