Allen Porter is the older brother of Freeman Porter, also a pewterer. Allen settled in Stevens Plains, Westbrook, Maine in about 1830. Freeman joined in a partnership with Allen called A. and F. Porter in 1835. Allen retired in about 1840 and Elizur B. Forbes of Hartford became Freeman's foreman (Laughlin, vol.2, p.109). For more on Allen and Freeman Porters' marks, see C.
