Richard Newman, former President of the National Association of Clock and Watch Collectors, September 2013, stated that: "I have copies of some of the research notes on one of Harland's apprentices, Jedediah Baldwin, and it is clear from his (Baldwin's) repair records that Harland sequentially numbered his watches. The earliest occurrences of Harland's serrial numbers that I have seen are in the 500's recorded in 1793, so I think that provides reasonable evidence that your #481 was likely made by (or imported by) Harland prior to 1793."
