This shuttle came to Winterthur with a loom that has been used in southeastern Pennsylvania for over 200 years. Weavers throw shuttles back-and-forth across a fabric's warp in order to create the perpendicular weft. Shuttles that are taller and thicker, such as this one, were more likely used to weave wool or carpets.
