This temple piece came to Winterthur with a loom that has been used in southeastern Pennsylvania for over two hundred years. Temple pieces come in pairs and are inserted perpendicular to the warp of a fabric in order to create an opposing tension. When the temple pieces are inserted into the warp, the pull of the selvedge does not cause the fabric to crumple inwards.
