First known glasscutter and engraver to have worked in America, he advertised his skills in the May 17, 1773 issue of the "Penssylvania Packet". In the summer of 1773 he left Philadelphia to work as cutter and flowerer at H.W. Stiegel's glassworks in Manheim, Pennsylvania. (Arlene Palmer, Glass in Early America, p. 68.)
