An article in the Supplement to the Philadelphia Inquirer (May 27, 1962, p.20) discusses stove plates made by Heinrich Wilhelm Stiegel (1729-1785). Stiegel began working for Jacob Huber, the owner of the furnace, as a bookkeeper in 1752. Stiegel later married Huber's daughter Elizabeth and became part owner in the furnace in 1758. He immediately began growing the business and with the financial collaboration of Philadelphia merchants Charles and Alexander Stedman, he added land and built a new furnace on the site.
