Lucretia Houghton Martin (1791-1847), daughter of Major Edward Houghton and Ruth Bridgeman of Guilford, Vermont. Her father was quite wealthy but fell on hard times through the financial failure of his only son, Edward, in New York City. Lucretia married Willard Martin, a merchant in 1810, about the time that this quilt was made. Willard Martin was born in Rehobeth Mass in 1786, and became one of the leading citizens of Guilford, Vermont.
