Robyn worked as a lithographer in Philadelphia (1848-1852) in the firm of Dreser & Robyn. He moved to St. Louis in 1850 where he and his brother Charles operated a lithographic business until 1857. The Missouri Historical Society owns Robyn's sketchbook, ledger, and a self-portrait.
