John Condé (printmaker; painter/draughtsman; French; British; Male; 1765 - 1794) Also known as: Condé, John; Condé, Jean; Condee, John Address: 53 Wells Street, London 63 Queen Anne Street East (1792) Biography: Stipple engraver and publisher, brother of Peter. b.France (so Jean originally), trained in Paris under David, to London with Boydell in 1787 where remained for the rest of his life. Worked after Cosway and others. In RA Schools, winning a silver medal in 1788. Died young in July 1794. Isaac Reed, and his co-partners John Sewell and Daniel Braithwaite, were proprietors of "The European Magazine, and London Review" from 1782 until 1802. Launched in January 1782 by the journalist James Perry as the mouthpiece of the Philological Society of London, the "European Magazine" was dedicated (according to its subtitle) to the mission of bringing to its readers "the Literature, History, Politics, Arts, Manners, and Amusements of the Age."
