Edmund Dolbeare (Maker)

Edmund Dolbeare was born in England and came to Boston by September 16, 1671. Finding little success there while possibly working as a journeyman in the shop of John Baker (brazier and pewterer), Edmund moved his second wife and family to Salem around 1684. They were back in Boston by 1693. Edmund died sometime between 170 and 1711. Father to John Dolbeare, pewterer. For more on Edmund Dolbeare's marks, see Montgomery, History of American Pewter (1973), p.221; Ebert, Collecting American Pewter (1973), p.130; and Carl Jacobs, Guide to American Pewter (1957), p.85.
