Bequest of Henry Francis du Pont
Archibald Hamilton Rowan (Artist)
1751-1834
Archibald Hamilton Rowan was an exiled Irish revolutionary. He purchased both the calico printing business in Manchester and that in Delaware from William and Thomas Jordan.
When putting up the property and equipment for auction in 1799 he bitterly offered that "Any person inclined to sacrifice his property by carrying on this manufactory in America, may have the whole for one half the sum they cost, and immediate possession of the premises, from Archibald Hamilton Rowan, at the Factory."
