Joseph Danforth Jr. (Maker)
03/14/1783-11/11/1844
Joseph Danforth Jr was the great-grandson of Thomas I; grandson of Thomas II; son of Joseph Sr; newphew of Thomas III, Edward, Jonathan, and Samuel (of Middletown); cousing to Josiah; great-nephew of John (of Norwich). Nineteen members of the Danforth family, spread over five generations, became invovled with manufacturing pewter or britannia. Joseph Jr probably trained with his uncle William, starting in about 1797, and possibly was involved with Thomas III early on. By 1807 Joseph Jr was in Richmond, Virginia, where he worked until his death. For more on Joseph Danforth Jr's marks, see Carl Jacobs, Guide to American Pewter (1957), p.67; C.
