Creator (Role)

March 13, 1806-July 20, 1865
Jacob Biesecker Jr. submitted an1833 advertisement for coverlets in The Republica Banner, Gettysburg. Jacob was also listed as a weaver in 1860 census. Donation also included his manuscript book of weaving drafts, now housed in the Winterthur Library. This may have been done during his training. It appears that Jacob Biesecker Jr. never married or had chidlren. The coverlets and draft book included in the 2015 donation were discovered in the chimney of a house owned by Bruce Biesecker (1879-1955), the son of Jacob Biesecker Jr.'s nephew, William P. Biesecker (1846-1909). The coverlets were discovered by Bruce’s niece Martha Hartman (1904-1982) and on her death passed to her niece Marylyn Rohr (b. 1937) who gave them to her sister Patricia Barnes (b.1939). Patricia Barnes donated the three objects to Winterthur with the assistance of Ms. Gay McGready.
