Simond left Europe at age 25 and travelled to New York City where he was a merchant and auctioneer until 1815. At that time he returned to France where he lived until his death at age 64. He was a member of the New York Historical Society. His most notable works were paintings of Henry Hudson's "Half Moon", which was later engraved by Asher B. Durand and "Moses Rescued by Pharoah's Daughter", engraved by Leney and Peter Maverick in 1816.
