Flemish draughtsman and copper engraver from Antwerp. He was the son of Anton Wierix I, and the brother of Johan Wierix and Anton Wierix II.

A leading figure in late medieval art north of the Alps; his influence spread outside of the Rhine Valley. He revitalized German painting through his clever assimilation of Netherlandish art and a sense of local tradition. He is noted for his refined draftsmanship and combined monumentality and delicacy.
