Sarah Ann Bainton (Maker)
1820
Sarah Ann Bainton worked this pictorial or verse sampler in 1828, when she was eight years old. She was born in 1820 to parents Christopher and Grace Bainton. Her parent's names and the name of her preceptress, Ann Thomas are worked onto Sarah's sampler. The motifs on her sampler are similar to those found in New Castle County, placing Sarah and her family in Delaware, possibly Wilmington.
Ann Thomas (School mistress)
Sarah Ann Bainton's preceptress, Ann Thomas. Ann was named on Sarah Ann's silk on linen sampler of 1828.
