Henry Augustus Loop was a painter of portraits, landscapes and ideal subjects. He trained in Paris with Thomas Couture, followed by study in Italy. He settled in New York City in 1858. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design (of which he was a member), the Brooklyn Academy, the Paris Salon and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among other venues.
