In 1781 Louis Courvoisier became a partner with Loius Robert from the La Chaux-de-Fonds region of Switzerland. Their first partnership name as "J. Robert et Fils et Cie, but by 1800 the name of the firm changed to "Robert et Courvoisier". In 1816 watches were produced and marked with a new name, "Courvoisier et Cie" reflecting changes in the partnership over time.
