Bequest of Henry Francis du Pont
Thomas Dowler (Maker)
"Thomas Dowler was one of several members of that family involved in the fabrication of iron and brass goods from the mid eighteenth century through the first decade of the nineteenth. He succeeded his uncle, Thomas Larkin, in the candlestick-making business. Dowler's son William joined him for a short time, and the firm was eventually taken over by Francis Dowler, possibly another son. Another branch of the family, headed by Mary Dowler and also located in Birmingham, seems to have specialized in brasswork." (Fennimore, 2004, p. 158).
