Object Description

This shuttle came to Winterthur with a loom that has been used in southeastern Pennsylvania for over 200 years. Weavers throw shuttles back-and-forth across a fabric's warp in order to create the perpendicular weft. Shuttles were often commonly repaired several times over their history of usage, seen in the addition of a reinforcing wire in this shuttle's 'eye'.

This shuttle includes paper wound around the quill marked with the words: "Last Onward Onward".
