Object Description

Web - 07/18/2012

The slightly bluish lead-glazed, cream-colored earthenware (pearlware) plate was press or hump molded and has a shallow well and a v-shaped footrim. The glaze coats the entire piece.

The front bears an underglaze blue transfer print in the "Hoboken in New Jersey" pattern after an 1808 engraving of John Stevens estate, Castle Point, Hoboken, New Jersey.

Printed under the rim is an underglaze blue oval cartouche with a lace-like border and the pattern title "Hoboken/ IN/ New Jersey." An impressed "7" or "L" mark is within the footrim.
