This half-pint liquid measure was created in Albany for use as a standard in Dutchess County, New York. Standard measure capacities were established by each state's government and individual counties often possessed liquid and dry measure standards to regulate fair commerce in consumables. This measure was part of a graduated set which could include sizes from a gill up to one gallon.
