Creator (Role)

Carl Bodmer
1809-1893
It appears Bodmer changed the spelling of his first name from "Carl" to "Karl" about 1850. Bodmer came to the United States in 1832-34 as part of Prinz Maximilian zu Wied-Neuweid's ("Prince Max") expedition through the midwest and Great Plains states. During that time, he painted Native Americans as well as natural history subjects and landscapes. References: Karl Bodmer's America, Introduction by William H. Goetzmann, Annotations by David C. Hunt and Marsha V. Gallagher, Artist's Biography by William J. Orr (Joslyn Art Museum & University of Nebraska Press, 1984).
