In the 1919 edition of "Industrial Sheffield and Rotherham", Ward & Payne was described as being one of "the oldest firms in Sheffield" with a 115 year history.

1. Mark; Side of blade; "WARD" arched over a logo depicting a pair of crossed hammers over an anvil flanked by the letters "W" and "P", in turn over "WARRANTED" curved, all stamped incuse.
