"A printworks from about 1798 to 1893, it was famous for block-printed "rich chintz Furnitures". Richard Jackson and John Stevenson were the original partners, joined in 1804 by John Swainson. Charles Swainson, with varying partners, ran the firm from 1809 to 1825. From 1825 to 1856 it was known as Charles Swainson & Co., then until 1893 Thomas Clarkson & Co. Important records from this printworks survive for the years 1799 to 1840." Hefford, Wendy. 1992.
