Creator Notes

Faber Jr. was one of London's most prolific mezzotint engravers. He used the "Jr." or "Junr." designation with his name until his father's death in 1721.Pupil of Isaac Beckett. Smith acquired both Beckett's business and inventory of plates around 1688. Smith's plates were sold at his death to John Boydell.

State III is indicated by the evidence of the damage to the plate in the area of the niche, in addition to the careful retouching throughout the image which is the distinguishing feature of the second state. Smith lists as a modern restrike of the plate (Smith 400).
