This delftware tile bears an overglaze printed scene portraying "The Sailor's Return." Unusually, the very same design was chosen as ornament on a creamware plate in the Winterthur collection (1957.0095). The plate is inscribed in hand-painted enamel with its original owners' names and a date, "JOHN & SARAH ARTIS, YARMOUTH, 1769."
